Some times, I think people use that kind of language to ground new people in a game that they didn’t design to emulate a certain thing. Or sometimes you step away from it and go, “This is a lot like X, I should probably use that as a touchstone.”

I’m less interested in things that are just the serial numbers filed off, but then again, sometimes that can be really cool. I’m thinking of Burning Wheel: Jyhad, the not-Dune setting book.
